Sárospatak Város Önkormányzata

29.09.2023

Summer - especially August - is a time for festivals, cultural and other events. After the closure during the COVID19 epidemic, there is nowadays again an extremely high demand for cultural, music and gastronomic festivals on both sides of the border, which serves as the basis of this project.
The city of Sárospatak is often referred to as the Athens of the Bodrog, whose written and built historical monuments and natural features provide excellent opportunities for the development of economic, tourism and cultural cooperation.
The village of Leles, the most important settlement in the Upper Bodrog region, has a centuries-old history. The Premonstratensian monastery that is linked to Sárospatak, as a historical monument, contributes significantly to the tourism potential of the municipality, which is also rich in natural assets (e.g. the Latorca river, the former Tisza backwater, the Ticce riverbed and the surrounding marshy, wooded and green areas).
Within the framework of the project, the partners plan to organise 1-1 summer festivals in Sárospatak and Leles, which will include cultural, gastronomic and traditional elements and which, through their joint organisation and implementation, will establish a long-term cooperation between the two partner organisations and other institutions and organisations in the Bodrog region, which will be able to provide high-quality events of international importance for local residents and tourists in the coming years.
Equipment will also be purchased on both sides for the technical organisation of the free events.
The project will also help to increase tourism between the two countries, as the festivals will attract not only local people but also visitors from further afield.
