THE HUMAN

27.10.2021

The main purpose of the project is to launch a cross-border cooperation between sommeliers and sommelier associations of two countries by creating an international sommelier competition called the Junior Sommelier Cup. The inspiration was taken from our previous experience with an international bartender competition (Goral Vodka Master CUP), as one of the most successful projects in this segment in Central Europe. Joining the associations of sommeliers of Hungary and Slovakia through a joint competition would mean the beginning of a close cooperation in the given community and presentation of an interesting and qualified craft to the public. Granarium in Jablonov nad Turňou is the venue of the international sommelier competition, where the associations and participating sommeliers will be presented and where the competition itself will take place. Primarily wines of wineries from the eligible regions will be selected for the competition. Moreover, the presentation of wines from the given regions may also lead to their increased demand and, consequently, their availability in prestigious establishments, where the wine selection is often determined by sommeliers. The grand finale of the competition takes place in the historical premises of the Betliar Chateau. Thus the presented project supplements another goal of the cross-border program, which is the promotion of tourism in Gemer region. The long-term goal of the project is to create a large international competition with participation of several countries. Fulfilling the project´s objectives will promote cross-border partnerships, tourism in Gemer region, popularity of this qualified craft of sommeliers and make the wines and wineries of the given regions visible, which will indirectly affect their market presence.
