Environmental problems do not stop at national borders so handling them requires cross-border cooperation. In accordance with EU environmental policy, special emphasis should be placed on prevention, and environmental education is an important pillar of this.

The main aim of the project is to preserve and present the natural values of the border region through interactive environmental educational and awareness-raising parks.  It is essential to start environmental awareness raising in early childhood because this age group is more open to acquire new habits and behaviour patterns. For the primary target group of the project – kindergarten and primary school children - the partners create thematic playgrounds and interactive educational parks in Bükkaranyos and Vel’ky Kamenec, where children can learn the basics of environmental protection and environmental responsibility. The protected fauna and natural values of the regions will be presented in the educational parks.
One park will be created on the banks of the Kulcsárvölgyi brook in Bükkaranyos. There are several protected species in the stream, eg. gobio gobio, phoxinus phoxinus, leucaspius delineatus. The other park will be created in the water catchment area of the lake in Vel’ky Kamenec. In frame of the project 3 one-day study trips will be organized with the involvement of 40-40 children from both sides of the border. During the study trips children learn about the wildlife, natural values of the neighbouring countries, furthermore about environmental protection. The implementation of the above mentioned goals and activities will help to increase the attractiveness of the border area; thus it contributes to Priority Axis 1 of the programme.
