Egercsehi Bányászati Baráti Kör Egyesület

18.11.2020

The main aim of the project is to improve the level of institutional cooperation and to expand cross-border cooperation between citizens in the Slovak-Hungarian cross-border area. The current project focuses on the field of culture, especially the introduction and presentation of mining culture and mining heritage which used to play a very important role in the lives of Egercsehi and Čučma municipalities over the decades and centuries. The mine was the main source of living in the settlements for a long time, and until the closure of mines it was the engine of the municipalities, the place of people’s everyday life. In addition to preserving and presenting the memories of the past, the partners place great emphasis on the development of strategic cooperation and the possibilities of utilizing this unique heritage. The demand for heritage tourism shows an increasing trend nowadays, so the project is based on real needs. Mining traditions which are integral parts of the settlements’ history – together with modern technologies – can be a local community organizing force and can be a starting point of tourism innovations.
In order to achieve the project goals, the partners will implement joint thematic events related to mining: 1-1 thematic miners' day combined with a professional study tour and 1-1 professional conferences and permanent exhibitions on both sides of the border, presenting the mining past, values and traditions of the settlements in a form that can be easily understand by the general public.
The activities of the project can complement well  already existing initiatives, such as the “Iron Route” thematic route implemented with the financing of the Interreg Slovakia-Hungary Cooperation Programme.
