The program area (Borsod - Abaúj - Zemplén County, Košice Region) is an area separated by national borders but but they have a common culture. It have been considered as  a peripheral area for decades, central management limited its development. It is an economically and socially disadvantaged area, characterized by extremely high unemployment, emigration and an aging population. The cultural development of the program area requires the cooperation of the representatives of the area and the implementation of joint development programs. Joint project of Ruská and Vámosújfalu  is trying to revitalize cross-border relations by cultural tourism.                                    The comprehensive aim of the project is to widen the attractions of cultural tourism in the region. The rich cultural offer will also encourage young professionals to remain in the region. It will promote higher specific spending and consequently the economy will develop, new jobs will be created, the local population’s quality of life will improve. The longer stay of tourists will increase the number of guest nights and increase the competitiveness of the region.
