Inter-generational poverty –that affects excluded and marginalized Roma communities more intensively - is a serious and continuously increasing problem, and it requires prompt social actions and community based interventions, specifically from the earliest ages.

The deprivation faced in early ages influences the whole life of people. It has been proven that interventions in early ages are more effective than compensation programs provided in later ages. Marginalized Roma children’s access to quality education, and other early childhood education and care services is extremely important in the Slovak-Hungarian border region, so that our project intends to enhance the capacities of professionals working in this field. For this purpose, we conduct a systematic situation analysis, trainings and a cross-border event; we design an on-line professional resource center, and communication platform, and disseminate the best practices of the targeted countries across the borders.
As the result of the project we expect that:
(1) capacities and competencies of early childhood development professionals working with marginalized Roma children will be strengthened – directly at the target settlements, and in the whole border region;
(2) the quality of work of the involved professionals will be increased, thus the educational attainment, social situation and labor-market position of marginalized Roma children will be improved, their social mobility will be accelerated;
(3) in the long run we contribute to the elimination of discrimination and negative stereotypes from the side of mainstream society towards marginalized Roma communities, thus we interrupt the vicious circle of multidimensional inter-generational poverty.
