The project goal is to elaborate expert studies for restoration of two oxbows in the catchment area of Tisa river and to exchange the knowledge and experience in wetland and oxbow restoration between Slovak and Hungarian partners and stakeholders.  Both project partners have rich experiences with practical measures and rising public awareness in protection of wetlands of the cross-border region. Any measures or projects focusing on wetland restoration in this region have positive cross-border effect because the region is directly connected by important lowland rivers. Wetlands in good condition are full of life and have very important self-water-cleaning function what helps to improve the water quality in the rivers. Wetlands fulfil important non-productive funkcions in flood protection, flood prevention, biodiversity protection, recreational functions, water reservoir, influence positively the ground water level and very urgent is the ability of climate change mitigation. All of the lowland rivers have been drastically managed and regulated in the past, wetlands and oxbows have been degraded or even destroyed and the result is that they do not fulfill the mentioned non-productive functions. Expert studies for revitalisation of two oxbows will be elaborated in frame of this project. One located on Tisa river in Slovankia and second on Bodrog river in Hungary. The studies will include natural characteristics, land owner- and usership, identification of stakeholders, geodetic measures, technical project for restoration necessary for future realization of projected measures. Networking, exchange of the knowledge and publicity will be included (2 workshops, 2 press releases, 4 educational articles, 1 brochure, participation at 2 conferences).
