Gymnázium - Gimnázium Kráľovský Chlmec

23.07.2020

The partnership consists of the Királyhelmec Gymnasium and the Heves County Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The aim of the project is to promote science fields, with a particular focus on attracting girls. Our experience and profile are slightly different, which perfectly contributes to our broad understanding of career guidance and science education. We want to influence young people in a complex way so that more people choose STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Craft & Design, Math).
According to Eurostat data from 2018, the proportion of women among scientists and engineers is 38.77% in Slovakia and 30.12% in Hungary. In addition to the unchanged trends, a serious shortage of labor in the field can be predicted regardless of gender. Students often do not have a realistic picture of STEAM career opportunities, as the field is changing rapidly, and teachers and guidance counselors often do not have up-to-date information to help students make decisions. There are many stereotypes surrounding the notion of STEAM professions, and the curriculum often fails to keep up with the latest scientific knowledge. For this reason, we would like to respond to these problems by sharing our resources in a joint cross-border program.
In our joint career development process, we want to use modern, engaging tools to revolutionize career guidance, as well as interest-based STEAM education in the school environment. As a short-term result, we expect to provide young people with credible information about occupations and jobs. Long-term results are expected in the further education that will be realized through the choice of STEAM areas.
